Port Panama City Wood Pellet Facility
PROJECT PROFILE
Value engineering was the key to GW Systems being awarded the contract for this aggressively scheduled project. When at a seeming budget impasse and facing nearly impossible time constraints, The Panama City Port Authority was in real danger of not being able to fulfill commitments to Green Circle Bio-Energy for the receiving and loading of wood pellets for shipments to Sweden.
In a public bid process, GW Systems was awarded the contract. The design/build contact included the engineering, fabrication and installation of a turn-key system to receive, dry store, and ship 600,000 tons per year of wood pellets. To date, this is the largest facility of its' type in the United States. The system includes a rail receiving/unloading station that moves pellets from railcar into the dry warehouse at a rate of 400 tons per hour and a reclaim system that conveys the pellets to the ship loading equipment at a rate of 1100 tons per hour.
GW Systems company was very excited to be involved in this renewable energy project. We see this as the beginning of a new opportunity for our country's forest products industry to assist America and the World in the development of clean, lasting energy.
